🛁 Thinking about a freestanding tub? They’re dreamy, but there’s more to them than just picking a pretty shape. Here are 5 things you’ll want to know before you install one:
1️⃣ Drain placement is everything – if it doesn’t line up, you’re in for $$$ changes. That means you must select your tub BEFORE construction begins! And always ask your contractor to verify the drain can be placed before you purchase the tub.
2️⃣ This one is super important! Different tubs offer an exposed or internal overflow. External overflows are ugly, and you can see them if you look at the side of your tub or can see the backside of your tub through a window. Integral overflows are sleek and hide the overflow inside the tub walls. They also allow you to place the tub closer to a wall.
3️⃣ If you’re dead set on a cast iron tub make sure your subfloor can handle the weight! Some tubs weigh 300–400 lbs before you even add water!
4️⃣ If you’re placing your tub inside a wet room with a drain, the floor level under your tub will be sloped towards the drain. Make sure you understand how this will effect your tub!
5️⃣ Faucets steal the show – wall-mounted, floor-mounted, or deck-mounted will totally change your look (and plumbing needs). Make sure you select the faucet before construction begins!
✨ Pro tip: plan the plumbing before you fall in love with the tub — it’ll save you headaches later.
