Join us for a FREE guided sky viewing event on Tuesday, March 24 from 7pm to 9 pm This is a collaborative event between the Barrington Area Library, Northwest Suburban Astronomers, and Citizens for Conservation. It will begin about an hour after sunset when six planets — Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Venus, and Mercury — will align in the sky.
Members of the Northwest Suburban Astronomers will set up telescopes and share information on the splendor of the night sky. Planets, the 1st quarter moon, and celestial objects including the Andromeda galaxy, Orion, Pleiades, Double Cluster in Perseus, Crab nebula, Owl Cluster, and others will be observed.
This event will be held at Hill ‘N Dale Preserve at 11801 Ridge Road. It was chosen for fabulous views of the horizon in all directions with little to no exterior lighting. The public event is free and open to all ages. We highly recommend that you register for this event so we can notify you if it becomes too cloudy and plans shift.
Registration: https://balibrary.librarycalendar.com/event/sky-viewing-reschedule-date-246311.
IF the skies become too cloudy, we will notify you and switch to a program form at the Barrington Area Library. Astronomer Tom Auchter will present “Awe” which will feature the beauty of both nature in the Barrington area and our night sky. This will include learning about our Milky Way Galaxy and the type of objects you can easily observe through binoculars and small telescopes. The “guided tour” will feature Tom’s photography and extensive knowledge of both Tom and Edith Auchter.
