🌿 Today’s Good Dirt from Dixon Acres 🌧️
After a stretch of rain, many gardeners start worrying about their plants. But the truth is, most garden plants can handle a lot more rain than they can handle drought.
The real concern isn’t usually the rain itself—it’s what happens after.
🌱 Watch for standing water around plant roots.
🌱 Skip watering until the soil actually begins to dry.
🌱 Keep an eye out for yellowing leaves, which can signal stressed roots.
🌱 Check tomatoes for cracking as fruits rapidly take up water after heavy rains.
🌱 Make sure mulch isn’t piled directly against stems and trunks.
And here’s something many gardeners don’t know: rainwater is often better for your plants than tap water. It’s naturally soft, contains trace nutrients, and helps wash dust from leaves so plants can photosynthesize more efficiently.
So while the gloomy weather may have us reaching for coffee, your garden is probably enjoying a good drink.
Have you been celebrating this rain or wishing for a little more sunshine? ☀️
🌿 That’s today’s Good Dirt from Dixon Acres… now get outside, keep your hands dirty and grow something!
