Before and after: a kitchen remodel inspired by mid century modern design, natural light, and the wooded setting just outside the windows.

For this renovation, the goal was to create a kitchen that felt modern, calm, and welcoming without becoming cold or overly trendy. Custom cabinetry in Benjamin Moore’s October Mist brings in a soft, earthy green that changes beautifully throughout the day, while leathered marble countertops, understated hardware, and warm wood flooring keep the space feeling grounded and refined.

Large windows maintain the connection to the trees outside, making the finished kitchen feel like a quiet modern retreat tucked into nature.

Swipe through to see the transformation.

We received normal jobsite footage.

Then we added sound effects that were absolutely not approved by anyone qualified.

The work is real.
The audio choices are deeply unserious.

For plumbing, remodeling, bathrooms, kitchens, and questionable marketing decisions, MSI has you covered.

For decades, Anne Thornton has helped homeowners navigate one of the biggest investments they'll ever make: their homes.

As Founder & CEO of MSI Plumbing & Remodeling, Anne has built a reputation for turning complicated home maintenance and remodeling topics into practical advice homeowners can actually use.

Her presentation, "Your House Wants to Kill You and Take Your Money Too," is packed with real homeowner stories, common mistakes that lead to expensive repairs, warning signs homeowners often overlook, and simple ways to protect your home and budget.

The presentation is designed for homeowners, not contractors. No technical knowledge required. No sales pitch. Just useful information, a few laughs, and actionable takeaways attendees can put to use right away.

Every attendee receives a complimentary copy of Anne Thornton's Insider's Guide to Home Improvement.

Anne is currently booking for Fall 2026 speaking engagements, including:

✔ Women's organizations
✔ Libraries
✔ Community groups
✔ HOA and condo associations
✔ Networking organizations
✔ Homeowner workshops

If your organization is looking for an engaging, educational speaker, we'd love to hear from you.

Thank you to the Facebook Marketplace algorithm for continuing to make sure we never miss an interesting plumbing fixture.

Also apologies to Prince for Audra attempting to sing in order to avoid copyright issues.

It’s toilet time. 🚽⏰

Newest addition to the Toilet Terrace: a vintage toilet seat clock we found at Rascal Salvage Vintage in High Bridge. Somehow ridiculous and perfect at the same time.

If you’ve driven Route 31 lately, you already know the Toilet Terrace has become a bit of a landmark around here. But behind the colorful toilets and weird vintage finds is what we actually do every day: plumbing, HVAC, remodeling, kitchens, bathrooms, water heaters, and helping people make their homes better.

So yes, we collect toilet art. But we also install the real thing.

What looked “historic” wasn’t always original.

That became clear the moment we started remodeling this 1790s Federal-style kitchen.

The faux ceiling beams had been added decades later. The oversized brick built-in grill and chimney structure weren’t true to the architecture either. Behind it all was a maze of concrete-filled cinder block that took serious work to remove.

But once those layers came out, the house started speaking for itself again.

We leaned into the cleaner lines and symmetry that Federal homes are known for, rotating the island to create a better gathering space with seating, relocating the sink beneath the window to capture the wooded view, and preserving the original butcher block by refinishing and repurposing it within the new layout.

The goal was never to make the kitchen feel trendy.
It was to make it feel honest to the home.

Projects like this are our favorite because good remodeling is not just construction. It is listening to the house and knowing when to step back.

“This might be the most famous urinal in the world…”

Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain challenged the idea of what art could be back in 1917. A porcelain urinal in a museum sounded ridiculous at the time. Now it’s one of the most influential modern art pieces ever created.

As plumbers, remodelers, and people who spend way too much time thinking about fixtures… honestly, we really appreciate it. 😅

So naturally, we had to introduce our own little museum wing:
The Toilet Terrace.

Audra Giese and Anne Thornton recently attended the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting & Dinner, where they had the pleasure of meeting New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale Caldwell.

During the evening, Audra was officially re-sworn in as a member of the Chamber Board of Directors. At MSI, we’re grateful to be involved with organizations and leaders who are committed to making a positive impact throughout our communities.

We were especially excited to hear discussion around the possibility of a statewide permit dashboard. As a company that works closely with municipalities throughout New Jersey, the idea of improved transparency and efficiency in the permitting process is something we would enthusiastically support. Honestly, what a dream that would be for contractors, homeowners, and local departments alike.

Supporting small businesses, strengthening community connections, and creating opportunities for growth and collaboration remain at the heart of this important work.
