DON'T Ignore these!! Here are a few signs of water damage homeowners should take seriously:
1. Brown or yellow ceiling stains
That discoloration usually means water has been sitting above the drywall for a while. It could be a roof leak, an upstairs plumbing issue, or moisture trapped where you cannot see it.
2. Bubbling or peeling paint
Paint does not start lifting for no reason. When it bubbles, flakes, or peels, there is a good chance moisture is getting behind the wall.
3. Soft or spongy flooring
If part of your floor feels weak, uneven, or like it has some give to it, the subfloor may already be taking on damage.
4. A musty smell you cannot track down
Mold is not always visible right away. Sometimes the smell shows up long before the staining or growth does.
5. Warped baseboards or walls
Wood and drywall can swell, pull, and buckle when they absorb moisture over time. If you notice movement, water may be nearby.
6. Doors or windows that suddenly stick
Moisture can cause the framing around doors and windows to swell, making them harder to open or close.
7. A water bill that keeps creeping up
If your usage has not changed but your bill has, there may be a slow leak hiding somewhere in the home.
8. Visible mold
If you can see mold, there is a good chance there is more behind the surface.
Water damage rarely gets better on its own. The longer it sits, the more expensive the repair can become.
