Some additional images of what's to come at the new Intermont Equestrian Center at Emory & Henry College in Virginia. The new center will be located very close to the College campus and includes two indoor riding arenas with spectator seating, three stables (102) stalls, an outdoor competition riding ring, outdoor Derby field, classrooms, staff offices and conference facilities. This will be the new home for the nationally recognized Emory & Henry Equestrian Team!

A simple yet well-crafted little project. A personal Studio/Guest Cottage created for a great client and located right here in Lexington.
Thanks go out to Bill Nudd (construction), Yeiser Structural (engineering), Walt Roycraft (photography) and of course Natalie & Graves Dickey (Owners).

The build-out of this new residential studio building here in Lexington is getting close to completion. Here's comparative images of the model and the actual building. A few minor changes have been made along the way, which is not unusual, but I'm as excited about seeing it come together as much as the owners. More pictures when it's fully completed and the pergola is in place.

Very excited to share some images for my design for the new Intermont Equestrian Center at Emory & Henry College. The project includes stabling for 100 horses, two indoor riding arenas, conference space, offices, classrooms, service buildings as well as an outdoor riding ring and jump field. The Equestrian Team at Emory & Henry College have won an impressive 21 national championships over the years, so this new facility will provide them with a venue for competitions and training that is befitting their quality and accomplishments. More to come....

Pleased to share an illustration of a new stable and classroom building being planned for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. Design and planning began "pre-covid" and despite a slight delay last year, the detailed planning is back on track with the goal of a construction start in 2022. As the Equine Design & Planning consultant, I'm part of a great team lead by Chiang O'Brien Architects out of Ithaca NY.

I'm very pleased and honored to be selected as a juror (judge) for an international architectural design competition for a Museum of the Horse to be located in Latvia. I'll be part of an international jury to review and select the winners of this design competition that is open to professional architects, students and artists.

It should be very interesting; and I'm looking forward to seeing some diverse and creative designs. I'll be posting more info as it comes available.

Here are a few images of a new project for a private stable and matching separate workshop building for a client here in Lexington. The new structures, along with the Owner's residence, help define a courtyard and play area. A number of the stalls are set along the courtyard beneath a shedrow with dutch doors for visibility and easy access. Will update with more photos once construction begins.

When preparing the initial drawings and illustrations for clients, my preference is to prepare a freehand floorplan sketch (yes! by hand) that quickly and effectively communicates the overall layout of the design - as shown in the attached plan for a recent farmhouse remodel and addition. 3D computer modeling (as shown) can then be prepared based on these initial sketches to further explain and illustrate the design.

Happy holidays to all! Just a quick update and a couple of photos of a small, well-crafted vehicle garage addition to a shedrow stable in southern Michigan. Maintaining the rooflines, window style and exterior wall materials has resulted in a handsome extension to the building. Thank you Mark Ulrich for the photos - please pass along more once the garage door is painted.
