I’ve been slowly becoming aware of a feeling while we pack up Mom’s house in preparation for her upcoming move with my niece’s family. It named itself today - grief.
I’ve become accustomed to Mom in her space with her beautiful vignettes and life collections. I’ve loved how this house has served her -
- until it didn’t.

We don’t know where (of even if) these treasured, captured glimpses of time gone by will be displayed. But for now, they are going in detailed, labeled boxes. We will explore them anew as time and space allow us to.

Hard time keeping track of “dirty dishes” vs “clean dishes”?

Try this trick - style a dish towel over the door (it won’t close completely now) when the dishes are dirty and you are still loading as you go through the day. When you are ready to run the dishwasher, you’ll obviously need to remove your visual hack to run the machine. So, now, when you glance around you KNOW “no dish towel = machine has been run = clean dishes!”

This client - my mom 😃 - is moving in with my niece. They asked me for a floor plan for her new bedroom.
She wants to take the solid cherry bedroom suite she and dad picked up from a hole-in-the-wall shop in KCMO when they were first married. It consists of a full-size bed, a gentleman’s chest, and a dresser with mirror.
Next she wants the carved, reupholstered, Rose chair, which I’ve place in the corner. And finally, her mother’s bookshelves, one which has a drop down desk top. We haven’t decided if it should be near the chair or near the bed.
And then the final piece is her blanket chest/hope chest at the foot of her bed.
Mind you, this is how it starts. Measuring and plotting. But I always let the room speak to me as furniture is going in.
I’m curious - if you were to arrange this room, what would you do?

What to do with the decorative throw when you’re sleeping 🤍

Not everyone has a bench at the foot of the bed.
Not everyone has a chair to drape it over.
And while everyone has a floor… I vote no. 😉

One simple option:
👉 Open a dresser drawer and gently drape the throw over it.

It keeps the blanket off the floor, lets it breathe, and turns something purely functional into a quiet design moment.

No new furniture.
No dumping zone.
Just using what you already have — arranged anew.

It only took me 21 years to get an under-cabinet paper towel holder. 😄

Sometimes the smallest upgrades make the biggest difference — not just in function, but in how a space feels.
