A Happy Christmas Eve to each of you! This year has certainly been a different one, and a very hard one for many families. Many of us will not be joining others to celebrate the birth of Jesus tomorrow as we have in the past, but that won't stop us from celebrating it ourselves. Thank you all who have stopped by here, and liked and followed my page - as I am trying to build my business online, each little bit helps and encourages me. Craft shows were easy compared to this - and then I'm reminded by my family how nervous I was before my very first one...lol. This is a time to show our love for all, a time for hope for ourselves, our mankind, our futures. Have a very Merry Christmas!

Do you miss the craft shows as much as many of us do? Many think we only miss the selling, and while we do miss that, we also miss the friendships we've formed over the years with both our customers and other crafters. In our area of western NY, shows just aren't happening this year. Next best thing? An online craft show! I'm a member of Crafters and Creatives mean business, and as such, I am able to sell live on https://www.facebook.com/groups/onlinemarketspotbycraftersandcreatives
This Friday and Saturday will be our first live sales, and there will really be some nice items for sale. If you haven't joined the group yet, please do so. I understand there may be some give-aways this weekend, too. I won't be selling live this weekend (family commitments), but here is a slate I've recently painted - if interested, please message me. Please like and share my page! Thanks for stopping by today!

The cold weather ( high today has been 31) and prediction of snow tomorrow evening sure means winter has arrived. With the winter snows come the snowmen...one thing I've loved to paint. Painting on old roofing slates is another love of mine. A few years ago, we travelled to northwestern Pennsylvania to purchase a slate roof that was being taken off a house. When we got there and the man found out what I wanted to do with the slate, he took us to another house where they'd also removed the slate roof. Both houses had been build between 1873 and 1875, and these were the original slate roofing tiles. With my son's pickup truck, we purchased both roofs. We had to drive carefully home with the backend weighed down so much! When I learned to paint on slates, they were mostly just over 100 years old - these aren't much different other than being really, really dirty! All of my slates are handcuff either by my son or myself, and then very thoroughly cleaned. Once dried, they are sealed before painting. Here are a few examples of what I've done. Check back to see others that I've painted.

As with many other things, painting comes in different stages. There's the raw piece- be it wood, slate, glass or whatever surface you choose, when you decide what you want to paint on it. Then you have to base coat it, there's an ugly stage where sometimes you can wonder what on earth were you thinking?
finally you get to the finished piece. Painting with acrylics is very forgiving - make a mistake might have to sand down the mistake, but they are fixable and you can either fix it real quick or let it dry and paint over it. Sometimes you might have to sand it down, but it is usually very fixable. Here is a sampling of the stages from a recent project.

One of the benefits of the pandemic have been the number of zoom art classes given by different teachers. this past Saturday, I was able to participate in one such class by Laurie Speltz, The Creative Coach thru her Teamworks group. It was certainly fun not only painting, but also putting names and faces together! This happy fellow is not for sale, but for my own studio...its message is perfect - Believe in the Magic!

Painting for gifts is so rewarding; you really get to put your heart into it. Each year I have painted ornaments for my grandkids who live with me to give to their teachers and others involved with their education. Because of covid, they've started taking them ion early so they are able to enjoy them longer. Our schools remain on hybrid, but could easily go to full virtual. This is the makings of one for an elementary teacher. I do have a couple of wood blanks left, so if you're interested, please contact me.
