Sign hanging for
Lots of history and work on his part to make it happen:
"We were working the on the Admiral Hornblower boat. They took off their name boards and decided to throw them away. They weren’t very nice ones, Just boards with a printed name on it. But I noticed one had something on the back. Turned out to be the original name board for the boat when it was the City of San Francisco. I asked them if I could have it, and they said because they were throwing it away it was fine. It was in pretty poor shape. Probably ten layers of paint.
First thing I did was hand chisel out the lettering back to the original gold leaf. Then I ran it through our planer just to skim off some of the paint. Then I sanded it just enough without removing all of the original patina. After that I sent it to our paint shop for five coats of Captains Varnish.
I’ve been looking for an old sign for my backyard for a long time. I think this came out really nice."
