This is a Guinnea Egg.
About half the size of a large store bought egg it it packs twice as much protein - around 13 grams! and because Guinneas have a more varied diet the eggs have a great flavor.
Did you know Guinnea fowl will eat the insects in your garden but not the vegetables ? I love my Guinneas

With baby chics from the store at least 10-20 % die from hypothermia , being suffocated , or having p**p stuck on their butt and being unable to clear it. sweet mom has three 4 day old chics under her wing. She carefully crushes her pellets and meal worms for them to eat (and yes they have baby crumbles too) and cleans each chic one at a time . To think I was worried about mom (new mom!) crushing her babies or them not getting to their food!

I love my roosters, little boy blue is a black silkie with blue blue tipped tail feathers that are currently growing back. Hes the BOSS
Johnny Bravo our newest rooster is leading flock #2. Hes awesome and also very scared of other roosters, when he came to us a lot of his head feathers had been pecked out previously and he had a bloody scalp from being pecked on. Now hes got his own space with two of his ladies.
The bachelor flock- three roosters , all failed at being roosters are now my garden jewels (pets)
And! The ladies are brooding it’s been 14 days , we did the candle test and there’s definitely embryos in there 🙂
Should hatch of viable in a week or so .

Roosters are underrated I love my Roos. They are silly , funny , gorgeous and take their protecting job very seriously .

Spring is here ! My heart and soul are so happy for the rain last night , there’s a lot of repair to do around the farm after such a dry summer and then the wind which literally turned half of a pasture into a sand dune .
But I love this time of year, not to hot or cold, the smell of damp earth, the friendly surprises and delight in each tiny flower.

My boys have registered for an art show through the Erie public library ❤️
The theme has to be Colorado.
So today we picked and pressed flowers and leaves
And we are trying to make ‘nature paint’. According to the internet: choose the most brilliant colors in the garden and pour boiling water over the petals to strip of their color.
I think it takes a ton of petals to get a bright color , most of our colors may be variations of brown , but I am impressed with the yellow and orange … pics tomorrow of the final entries
