Jack Phelan Design Jack grew up in Burlington Massachusetts where, at the age of 11, he began landscaping the grounds of the home he grew up in, turning it into a showplace.

Jack Phelan Design LLC is a Los Angeles based landscape design company specializing in functional yet beautiful back spaces and plenty of curb appeal for the front. In Los Angeles he graduated with a certificate in Landscape Architecture from UCLA and now specializes in drought tolerant design and explores all possibilities within that confine. It doesn't have to be cactus.

For the front of the house we stripped, sanded and refinished the wood, thinned out the big Campher tree and replaced the thirsty lawn with drought tolerant shrubs and trees, some of which deliberately screen the house next door. Then we added lighting to make the journey to the front door much more welcoming.

This client wanted more life, color and function for their back yard. We created a seating area with a gas fire pit, a dining area and a cooking area, all with curvy movement to combat the severe linear patterns of the previous installation. And we brought in trees, shrubs and flowers to make this spot a destination instead of a pass through to the guest house.

From 2021, this property was nearly all lawn and is now nearly all drought tolerant plants and trees.
