RIP . I read City of Quartz, wrote a masters thesis on prison architecture, moved to LA and the rest is history. I guess you could say he was one of the most influential people in my life, who I had as a professor at SCI-Arc in the (gulp) 90s. A true creative mind and polemic thinker on politics & the city. And a fellow to boot.

This ground-up residential project is located in Venice, California.

While sandwiched closely between neighboring houses, this site has an incredible sense of urban openness, punctuated by rows of palm trees. The view to the expansive palm speckled sky allows for the innermost part of the site to become the true center of the home, with the main house and the guest house/studio connected through a nested yard.

Boty carefully crafted and instantly comfortable, the B+B house feels not too-precious to be lived in. We invite the wildness and unpredictability of life inside, creating a wonderfully rich and vibrant place to call home.
