Cleaning kitchen tools after handling raw chicken is just as important as cooking it to the proper temperature.
After use, wash tools with hot, soapy water and pay special attention to grooves, hinges, seams, or other hard-to-reach areas where raw chicken juices can collect. If a tool pulls apart for cleaning, separate the pieces and wash each section thoroughly before reassembling.
Once cleaned, sanitize any tools, cutting boards, countertops, sinks, or other surfaces that came into contact with the raw chicken. A kitchen sanitizer, sanitizing wipes labeled for food-contact surfaces, or a diluted bleach solution can all be effective when used according to the manufacturer's directions. Allow the sanitizer to remain on the surface for the recommended contact time before drying or rinsing if required.
