Oak trees, they come in all shapes and sizes, every one unique and different than the next. Each variety has its own likes, dislikes, pros, and cons. However, it takes them all for the ecosystem to sustain itself. Whether you’re adding a shade tree to the backyard, planting for economic timber value, or providing acorn crops for wildlife each tree has a purpose and placed under the right conditions it will thrive for many years.

If you’re interested in planting trees on your property we have several different varieties to choose from! If you need help picking out what would be best for you, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have about trees or our currently availability!

Spring is here and it has been a busy around the nursery the last few weeks! Acorns are germinating and trees are sprouting up all over the place! These Live Oaks (Quercus Virginiana) are busting through the soil and are growing really well in this spring time weather!

I want to personally thank all of our customers who have purchased trees from us recently and as well as over the past few years since this has started! What started out as picking up acorns in remembrance of my grandpa has grown into more than I ever thought! So thank you for all the support!

If there are any questions you have about trees or our current inventory, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Spring weather over the last few days has gotten planting for the 2026 season started a little early this year. Today we sowed Sawtooth Oak (Quercus Acutissima) in one of our propagation tables! We expect these to hit the ground running and will be up and sprouted in no time.
Interesting fact: Did you know, sawtooth oaks, are in the section Cerris which is a taxonomic group which is not classified as a red or white oak.

Even though the weather is starting to change, it is still the perfect time to plant trees while they are still dormant before spring officially gets here! If you have any questions about our current availability or trees in general don’t hesitate to contact us.

🌳 Oak Tree Spotlight 🌳

Today we are highlighting a tree that not everyone has heard about, it’s the Compton Oak (Quercus x Comptoniae)

Compton Oak is a hybrid! It is a mix of Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana) and Overcup Oak (Quercus Lyrata).

Compton oak is considered semi-evergreen. It takes the “best of both worlds” and combines it into one! It takes the ability to be planted in poor drained soils from the Overcup Oak, its acorn production and evergreen leaves from the Live Oak. The combination of both will give you a faster growing tree than its parents

Compton oaks are great for wildlife, but also very good landscape trees! If you have any questions about Compton Oak or any of our other varieties please feel free to reach out!

Compton oaks are currently available in 15 gallon!

Today we are Gathering and Testing our Nuttall Oak acorn crop for 2026! This is the first step in our planting process! We gather the acorns, then we test the acorns by submerging them in water to see which acorns are viable! (Good seed will sink to the bottom of the bucket, and the bad ones will float.) The good acorns will be stored in a bag with soil and water then placed in a cooler for 2 to 3 months! They will be ready to plant later this spring!

🌳 Oak Tree Spotlight 🌳

Nuttall Oak (Quercus Texana)

The tree that started it all at TC’s Trees. This tree is my personal favorite, for sentimental reasons, along with its many great qualities. Nuttall oaks are easy keepers, they are fast growers (in well drained soils) and can even survive in poorly drained soils with their ability to withstand seasonal flooding. Acorns will drop between November-Feburary making them very important for wildlife in the winter months. Whether you are looking to plant trees for
wildlife or looking for a shade tree to put a tire swing on for the grandkids, this tree can do it all.

Quinn Tyler approved!

Avaliable in 1 gallon ($7) and 3 gallon ($18)
