Courtyards and Christmas trees... It was an honor to be able to attend the ribbon cutting for Streetsboro's new city hall building this past weekend. Getting to observe the "winter look" of its landscape was a unique and educational experience, as well.

Punch list season is wrapping up! A lot of time on the road over the past few weeks meant getting to see several projects in their [near] completed states.

1 - Temple Emanu El in Orange Village: An anonymous donor wanted to gift the temple with a well-appointed garden space where existing memorial trees could be accessed and viewed from a pathway and quiet seating areas. Civil engineering by Riverstone Survey; paving and drainage by Cemco; landscape install by Estates Landscaping.

2 - ODNR State Park Visitor Centers: New visitor centers at Portage Lakes State Park and Mohican State Park feature real-life green solutions with landscapes that respect and reflect the unique ecology and environment of each site. Located within a floodplain, the center at Mohican (pictured) bridges a stony riverbed flanked by native plants amenable to frequent swings in soil moisture to accommodate high water levels during stormwater surges. 3 - ODOT Rest Areas: Two pairs of rest areas--Madison I-70 and Miami I-71--received upgrades to replace aging, dated facilities. Each of the sites offered a unique challenge for views, safety, and the provision of amenities to travelers, while requiring that plant palettes be largely native and serve as educational landscapes. Garden spaces through each are accompanied by interpretive signs that teach about the plant materials to all who stop and wish to experience a landscape that is truly Ohio-grown. 4 - Streetsboro City Hall: Following the success of Streetsboro's new community center, the city set its sights on a new city hall that would allow staff to move from its current space in a commercial strip. Taking a prominent spot on the city's new town center oval, the building and landscape employ modern materials, providing a striking focal point from across the green but with a welcoming front door. A small courtyard space within will provide city staff a quiet space to get fresh air. Lead architect: levelHEADS

Felt so honored to have been invited to an evening soiree to celebrate the completion of a deck and pergola at a residential client's home this past weekend. Boulevard Studios developed the owner's vision into construction documents, materials list, and permits, delivering a plan set from which these weekend warriors could build the structures themselves.

Without digging through my files, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what calendar day it was that I filed paperwork to register Boulevard Studios LLC as a firm, but I can definitely recall that it was late at night, I was at the kitchen counter, and working on a floor model laptop that I had haggled for at Best Buy just a week prior. So, it was sometime in April 2015 when this little landscape architecture firm was born, a veritable lemonade stand of a business that I always sort of knew I was going to have and yet, never quite expected.
It was dumb luck that led to finding typically pricey software for free/cheap at the right time. And it was nineteen years of experience in a variety of workplaces that gave me the confidence to finally hang my shingle.
But, I can especially attribute everything to my initially small, trusting client base, amalgamated from previous employers, the online marketplace, and more dumb luck. I will always say that it wasn’t so much business itself but the good people in it that made it possible for me to keep a career going while navigating life as a mom to a sweet kid who is just a “little extra” and needs a little more of me.
Thank you to everyone who connected, offered mentorship to, referred, and/or hired Boulevard Studios over the past decade! We appreciate it deeply as we start the next one.

“The restaurant’s design will draw on Ohio landscapes.” Indoors and out! We are proud to have been the landscape architect for the new Cooper’s Hawk in Avon, Ohio. 🍷 🌳

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants is opening it seventh location in the state in November.

Such an honor to have been invited to the dedication ceremony for the new Grafton Veterans Memorial today. The product of an extensive transportation planning study, the new park was created within right-of-way space left over from the realignment of two roadways that once converged at Main Street.

With support from consultants I.A. Lewin (structural engineering) and Erie Engineering and Constriction (electrical engineering), Boulevard Studios developed the site plans from concept through construction documentation and bid. We’d like to thank Village of Grafton for entrusting us with the design of this important piece of the Envision Grafton streetscape improvements project!
