A lot of homeowners hear the same advice: get 3 bids.
Reasonable advice. In practice, though, it often creates a false comparison.
Why? Because contractors are not always pricing the same project.
One proposal may assume a $20,000 cabinet package. Another may assume $120,000 in cabinetry. One may include broader allowances, less detail, or fewer planning assumptions.
Another may reflect a more defined process, a clearer scope of work, and a different level of finish.
At that point, you are not really comparing pricing.
You are comparing different remodels.
A better approach is:
• Interview 3 contractors first.
• Align the project assumptions.
• Then compare pricing.
Price matters. It just becomes useful after you know the scope, materials, and expectations are actually aligned.
Before you focus on the number, ask questions like:
• How do you plan projects before construction begins?
• How detailed is your scope of work?
• Who manages the project day to day?
• How do you handle budget changes?
• How are allowances and selections defined?
• How many projects do you take on at one time?
Those answers give you better context than a number alone.
At C Mac, we believe a better remodeling experience starts with clear planning, honest communication, and a defined process from the beginning.
If you are thinking about remodeling and want more clarity before construction starts, let’s talk.
