Staying Ahead of New Hampshire’s Building Code Changes
Matt recently completed 6 hours of continuing education through the New Hampshire Building Officials Association (NHBOA), participating in a seminar covering the significant changes from the 2021 International Residential Code (IRC) to the 2024 IRC.
As New Hampshire transitions to the 2024 code cycle, this course focused on understanding the specific code changes, the reasons behind them, and how they affect residential construction, permitting, inspections, and compliance in the field.
Topics included updates to:
- Building requirements
- Energy code requirements
- Mechanical systems
- Fuel gas requirements
- Plumbing requirements
- Electrical requirements
Many of the projects we perform—including additions, garages, structural framing, farmers porches, and renovation framing—require permits and inspections. Staying current with code changes helps us better understand evolving requirements, communicate more effectively with building departments, and keep projects moving smoothly from planning through final inspection.
One thing we especially appreciate about these seminars is the opportunity to learn directly alongside building officials, inspectors, plans examiners, and other construction professionals. Building officials frequently encourage contractors to attend these programs, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from the professionals responsible for administering and enforcing the code.
Matt is often one of the few contractors in attendance at these educational events. We believe investing time in continuing education is an important part of delivering quality workmanship and professional service to our customers.
Thank you to the New Hampshire Building Officials Association and instructor Rich Truitt for providing valuable training opportunities that help strengthen our industry and improve the quality of residential construction throughout New Hampshire.
Quality craftsmanship starts with knowledge, and learning never stops.
