Q: Can you make me a car key if I lost every key to the vehicle?

Jimmy: In many cases, yes. Losing your only key doesn’t automatically mean you need to have the vehicle towed to a dealership.

Depending on the year, make, and model, I may be able to come directly to the vehicle, cut a new key, and program it so you can get back on the road.

Every vehicle is different, so when you call, having your year, make, model, and VIN available helps me determine what’s needed.

Q: Is it cheaper to get a spare car key while I still have one working key?

Jimmy: Usually, yes. For many vehicles, making and programming a spare while you still have a working key is simpler and less expensive than waiting until every key is lost.

If your only key disappears, an all-keys-lost situation can require additional programming, key cutting, security access, and sometimes more involved procedures depending on the vehicle.

The best time to get a spare key is before you need one.

Sometimes — but compatibility matters.

Two key fobs can look identical and still use a different FCC ID, frequency, transponder chip, or internal electronics. Even when a fob looks correct, it may not be compatible with your vehicle.

Before you buy, send us the year, make, and model of your vehicle along with the FCC ID, part number, or product listing when available. We can help determine whether the fob is likely to work.

For supported vehicles, Manchester Mobile Locksmith can come directly to you, cut the key when required, and program the compatible fob to your vehicle.
