Saint Nicholas Miracle Garden

We provide community workshops and programming on , and testing innovative techniques to maximize the space and resources.

We are reactivating a community garden in the center of Harlem. The garden will promote environmental awareness and serve as an educational growing resource and community space for gardening. In addition, we will provide community workshops on healthy eating and sustainable lifestyles. The garden's compact size and dense urban context gives us the opportunity to promote vertical urban gardening an

d test innovative techniques to maximize space and resources. We are fiscally sponsored by Open Space Institute, Inc., as part of their Citizen Action Program. OSI is a nonprofit public charity exempt from federal income tax under Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code. 🌿✨ The rooftop is done-ish!
We just completed the shed rooftop pollinator garden at St. Nicholas Miracle Garden in , and we couldn't be more proud of everyone who helped make it happen. From the first nail to the final wooden crown, this build was a true community effort. 🙌🏽
Now we're getting ready for our on June 6th — and we need your help to bring this rooftop to life! 🌻🦋
We're accepting seedling and plant donations for our rooftop garden. Because of our unique growing conditions, we're looking for native plants that can handle:
🌬️ Windy conditions
🌤️ Shade to partial sun
🪴 Shallow soil (4" depth)

Happy ! Protecting our planet does not start or end with April, it’s a year-round initiative that requires all of us to do our part. Don’t toss your scraps, compost it. Stop by the St Nicholas Miracle Garden where your organics will become treasure to nourish our green spaces. Here is a list of what we can process on-site:

-Fruit and Vegetable Scraps
-Coffee Grounds and Tea Bags
-Eggshells
-Yard Clippings and Garden Trimmings

SAVE THE DATE! We are kicking off our farm stand on Thursday, June 4 and farmers’ market season on St. Nicholas Ave & W. 137th St. on Saturday June 6 where you can drop off food scraps.

Earth Day at SNMG 🌱🌍

Thank you, , for inviting me to be a panelist with Virginia Levie from South Midwood Pollinators and Ora Goodwin from Success Community Garden at the Green Guerillas “Growing Community, Garden by Garden” 2026 Annual Meeting.

We had an open conversation about what it takes to turn a community garden into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, covering everything from community engagement, leadership roles, and responsibilities that come with growth. talked about the reason I started UBHP, garden projects, setting up corporate volunteer days, the challenges we faced with sourcing funding, and the new opportunities that came with a stronger structure and mission.

I appreciate speaking with community gardeners, sharing knowledge, building better systems, and making an impact in the communities they serve.

All thumbs are welcome to join St. Nicholas Miracle Garden as we kick off the garden season by planting veggies and herbs together! Take home free seedlings and finished compost provided by the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC). Supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
