Tips for October.

•Resume pruning, remember not to take more than a third of the tree or shrub.

•This window is recommended for broadleaf w**d control. The plants are sending nutrients down to the root system to overwinter. Selective herbicides are most effective in the fall.

•Mulching leaves is beneficial for lawns. If you are able to mow leaves instead of removing them, it is natural fertilizer. One or two weeks of this practice should suffice.

•Northeast Ohio is a astounding place to witness leaf color change. Take advantage of it, slow down and look at the trees before you miss them.

Tips for August.

•Avoid pruning trees and shrubs if possible- The life cycle coupled with the heat is detrimental to plants growth.

•If you must fertilize use a slow release medium rate nitrogen- Water in for at least a week in the morning or at dusk.

•Be aware of your surroundings and look down often- To avoid ground dwelling stinging insects.

•Soak in summertime! It's a dazzling month in Ohio.
