Over the last week there has been a phone issue regarding incoming calls and texts. Calls and texts could go out, but no calls or texts could be received. If you have tried or know someone who has tried to get a hold of Cox Plumbing and there wasn't a return call, it was due to this issue. It has now been resolved, but any messages that were left are lost due to this and they'll have to call again to schedule an appointment.

Thanksgiving is a common time of year for sewer lines to back up, due to increased traffic from friends, family and food debris with large meals being prepared. Due to the possibility of this happening to those hosting thanksgiving meals, Cox Plumbing is offering discounted sewer cabling rates (also refered to as a roto rooter machine) until Nov 23. If you're hosting thanksgiving and have had issues in the past, call and schedule an appointment to get the lines cleaned out prior for a lower price.

That is half of a 2in PVC fitting from inside a drain line that is not flowing correctly after a recent bathroom remodel. As to where the other half is currently at, only the person who put it there might know. Getting it out wasn't the best experience and involved most of an arm down a drain line, but it would have continued to clog the line and possibly resulted in the drain line needing to be dug up and replaced.

A new bury hydrant for a family in the monett area. They had it replaced about 5 years ago, but the previous plumber utilized a steel coupling underground that shouldn't be used for permanent fixes. And between the gaskets and steel constantly sitting in mud, the coupling failed. 5 years of rust made the coupling difficult to remove, until a metal saw was used.
Since it was already dug up and the previous hydrant was removed, they liked the idea of replacing now instead of later. The new hydrant was repiped from the existing water line and will hold up longer without the fittings failing. Plus it will be easier to replace the hydrant several years from now since rust and corrosion resistant materials were used. Unfortunately everything fails, but there are products that last longer than others.

Drain and water lines installed for a mother in law house addition. Duel clean outs going in different directions in case of sewer stoppages that need cabling. And since this spot near cassville is more rock than dirt, the water lines are encased in pvc to protect them from cuts, breaks and other problems. Some concrete and framework still needs to be put up, but this guy's mother in law will probably appreciate having her own bathroom and running water.

Some of the cool things I get to see while plumbing. It was about the size of the end of my thumb. The customer had never seen a black widow before and I got a picture for him. Brown recluses are very common, they like dark and wet places, but black widows are not common

I've seen various wet wipes that say "flushable" or "plumber approved" and cabled a sewer for a couple hours today removing several. A lot of things can be "flushable". Cleared out a line earlier this week and their grandkid flushed a rubber ducky. As for the plumber that approved the wet wipes, he must have been hurting for money. While they help keep plumber's in business, when using a high torque cable machine, they tend to fling sewer water towards your face. It's not the most pleasant experience and that's not always mud. Women's hygiene products do the same thing. If it's not normal use or toilet paper, you probably shouldn't flush it. There are better ways if you really want your plumber to visit you.

I frequently hear a joke from customers along the lines of "the only thing I know about plumbing is p**p goes downhill". Or at least that is the family friendly version. While this is a good general rule, there are ways to make it go uphill. I replaced one of these pumps recently and they are a great way to install a bathroom in your basement without cutting up the concrete. Nearly everything has a draw back though. When replacing this one, the person who originally installed it did not take into account that one day it'll need to be replaced. That was the second one in a week and both were not installed with future fixes in mind. Which led to several gallons of sewer water being dumped into the basement. The new pump had some shutoffs installed so next time it will only lose the bare minimum of sewer water. If you want to put a bathroom in your basement, these are a great option. If it is installed correctly, you won't have to worry about a lot of sewage. If it isn't installed with future repairs in mind, it could lead to a rather large mess. If you currently have one, it would be better to add these simple fixes prior to a failure. Not only will your plumber be grateful, it will reduce the odor and mess. 12 towels was not enough to catch all the water released with the job pictured.

With Missouri in a heat wave and continuing to get drier, keep an eye on your water meter and pressure. The hot and dry ground can add stress and damage water lines. Most homes will be okay, older or poorly plumbed water lines with lots of fittings are more likely to suffer problems. I've had several recently that had to be dug up and replaced. All of these water lines have failed at a fitting. The first was not replaced properly by a previous plumber and failed at the connection point underground where new water line met an old galvanized line, another was ran in old iron line meant for gas and had one water line that was pvc and failed at a glue fitting. Most had their water running while waiting for dig rite to approve, but one home had a complete separation underground and had no water for a week. The sooner the issue can be spotted and addressed the better since it is a bad time to be without water.

A recent gas line in Aurora. Not all plumbers will work with gas lines. There was another plumber that did all the water and drain lines in the house. Then Cox Plumbing did the gas lines and while it is a slower process than crimp, cutting and threading creates a better looking, sturdier and long lasting product that has proven itself over decades. The concrete walls changed the layout, but the house should be rather storm resistant

This is more on the extreme side, but well water can also pump sediment. A variety of things can cause this such as earthquakes (even if they aren't in the same state depending on the magnitude) wells running low or hard rains. This year has had a few of those already. The well is pumping ground water and a disturbance can mix in large amounts of sediment into your drinking water. If you are concerned about what is in your water there are a variety of solutions to help. Even if your water just has a bad taste, such as a sulfur like taste with well water or a chemical taste in city water, there are some filters made to help with the sulfur or chemical taste. If the city uses to high of a mix ratio, it can also breakdown the water lines.
