There’s something about asters that reminds me of the end of summer. I guess it’s because they appear when the nights turn a little cooler and kids go back to school.

The name “aster” comes from the Greek word for star. In Ancient Greece, the flower was associated with love, patience, and wisdom.

Asters are beloved flowers for their ability to bring vibrant color at a time when most flowers are fading.

Add a little vibrancy to your warm, inviting home by planting some in your garden or picking up a bouquet at a local nursery or florist. It is always special when a touch of nature is brought into your home.

Asters are a quiet welcome home- a “star” of the garden brought indoors to remind us that the warmth and coziness of autumn is coming.

The first official Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, in 1882 in New York City.

The parade down lower Broadway drew 10,000 to 20,000 labor marchers. According to the New York Tribune, people were at the windows or on the roofs of buildings to get a glimpse of the first Labor Day parade honoring the contribution of working men and women.

The labor movement has contributed to the strength, prosperity and well-being of the nation.

Enjoy your day of rest and thank you for your contribution to the American work force.

Sometime you don’t have to buy something new to create a beautiful fall vignettte. If you look around your home you may have everything you need.

I wanted to create a fall accent for my father’s vintage radio and I gathered items I already had in my home- pumpkins, a bundle of corn, a porcelain partridge, and surrounded them with electric candles and a gold garland from Kim Gravel. The candles and garland add coziness and warmth, two words that come to mind when I think of fall.

Look around your house to see what you have- a stack of books, ceramic pumpkins, a bowl of apples can be combined with the warmth of electric candles. Add some leaves, acorns, or a small bundle of wheat and you have transformed an ordinary corner into a fall centerpiece.

The trick is to add layers, mix textures, and choose items that have meaning for you. Group them in different heights that are pleasing to the eye.

So before you head to the store take a look around your home.
Add a little imagination and make your home warm and inviting.

It’s officially pumpkin spice season!

Imagine drinking your coffee on your deck with fall leaves blowing in the wind, or perhaps you’re cuddled in a fleece throw by the fire.

I love the feel of a stoneware mug. It’s weighty and keeps beverages warm. An added bonus is that it’s microwave and dishwasher safe.
