When I started building Sarah Lynn Interiors I had no idea it would become what it is today.

What began as a love of helping spaces come together has grown into something I never could have pictured a handful of years ago: a design and staging business of my own. These days that means a staging inventory housed in my own warehouse, alongside interior design work like the room I’m sitting in.

The custom built-in bookcase in this room is one of my favorite examples of that work, mirroring other architectural details for a bespoke touch that ties the whole space together.

The path here wasn’t a straight line. I came to design after years as a stay-at-home mom, starting with decorating before adding staging just over a year ago. It’s been a one-woman operation from day one, though I certainly couldn’t have done it without the clients and realtor partners who took a chance on me early on, and who I’m still grateful to work with today.

When this family was close to wrapping up their kitchen and dining room renovations (which included this gorgeous floor-to-ceiling storage in the dining room) they brought me in for guidance on furniture.

We worked out table dimensions that gave them real seating capacity without sacrificing walkway space or chair comfort, and they had this beautiful custom table made to fit. Their kitchen has lots of white and some gray tones in the counters (as well as the gray dining room cabinetry), so when choosing seating, we decided on these dining chairs in a black finish to add some contrast and complete the range of tones. For the counter stools, the blonde wood adds warmth to balance the cool grays. Since these areas are in close proximity, we chose the same leather on both to keep everything feeling connected. We went with simple silhouettes and clean lines with the furniture selections to capture their style, which is clean and modern with some midcentury and Scandinavian influences!

One of my favorite problem-solving moments from a furniture planning project in Melrose! These clients have a small guest room, but wanted to ensure guests’ comfort with a queen bed and nightstand surfaces on both sides. With the room dimensions being too small to fit a queen bed and two nightstands along either dimension, we had to think creatively. This corner bed from Pottery Barn offers a very functional surface and storage along one side of the bed, which can serve as night stand space to one person, and left just enough room for us to squeeze in a small nightstand along the open side for a second person. Now this room can serve as a comfortable oasis for two guests!

Some more angles of this home office that was so fun to work on! This client loves bold colors and patterns (a designer’s dream) and wanted something dramatic in here. We went with Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball on the walls, and a bold floral wallpaper on the ceiling (Indienne Floral Bohemian by Milola Design). We had a custom floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcase made to provide storage and fit the home’s classic architectural character. The client loves some of her antiques, but loves more modern furniture styles too. We bridged the gap by selecting a variety of modern, transitional, and traditional pieces for an eclectic blend full of personality. The bookcase is painted Atmospheric by Benjamin Moore, and we tied in the burgundy tones of the ceiling with a muted mauve fabric on the sofa. A variety of classic brass light fixtures and hardware give the room a bit of sparkle! Swipe to the end to see where this room started!

We turned this unused billiards room into a vibrant, drama-filled home library/office with a custom built-in bookcase, sofa seating, and lots of desk space. So many fun details in this room (check out the curved headers on the bookcase to mirror the arched ceiling of the window nook!)
