360° of the kitchen coming together! Island doors ready to be painted, range hood and sink to be installed, two custom pullouts to be built, stools, light fixture, countertop and backsplash to be selected and it will be completed. Can’t wait to settle into this space and get it set up for cooking and baking! To be able to accomplish this level of finish, with so many custom items is testimony to the love and craftsmanship that Rusty puts into his projects. Paying homage to the craftsmanship of the original builders of this house back in the early 1800s, and honoring the Doerge family by restoring their family home has been a labor of love. This house is slowly but surely becoming a home. Yes, these are the same cherry cabinets shown in previous posts…😉

It’s been a bit since we’ve posted…
There’s much to report! The kitchen is taking shape, making an architectural salvage auction full kitchen work (thanks to ) is going very well and the wall of custom built ins that Rusty designed and created is beautiful. Cabinets will be painted a deep navy and the island will match the bookshelves. Can’t wait to use this kitchen!

Patio and porch time! Most of these flagstone blocks were hidden by flood mud and subsequent plant growth. They were discovered when equipment was run on what looked like lawn…the first crack stopped all activity there until the stones could be removed and stored. Now, a patio is in place back where it originally served the Doerge family for many years! Piers are in place so that a large covered porch off the dining room and small porch off the kitchen can be built. Progress!

Original foundation stone has a new life going into place…it’s found a new use supporting the bluestone step and slab that will complete a beautiful entryway. This home is a true testimony to reuse…after over 175 years supporting the structure, the original foundation stones are shining above ground. This restoration is an example of great planning and skilled craftsmanship throughout.

LET THERE BE LIGHT! What a long and winding road it’s been…illness, foot surgery, other tasks that needed attention and the list goes on. The wiring is receiving its switches and outlets (so, so many), one floor at a time so as not to break the bank. We still have hanging fixtures to source or create ourselves, but this is progress! Bonus? Powered by solar!
