Ripley House Project

There are alot of people working on the Ripley House, creatively and hands on. For some of the additions we will be doing, there are some beautiful adornments that will be added to the peaks. I was going through a bunch of photos of Ripley House that were acquired from Gary Skory. It seems that in a previous life she was a deep shade of green. These are some takes of the initial renovations Gary made when he acquired the home in the 80s. Look at all the fixing that was accomplished on the siding and the porch areas! She has so much love and care involved with her story, it is wonderful to see the continuation of it all from generation to generation.

So much research, time and effort has been put into the planning that led to today. Though there was confidence in the preparation, there was definitely some stress involved in the waiting. And waiting...and waiting... But today, the work paid off and the renovation plans were approved by the fine City of Midland! Thank goodness, because a person can only hold their breath for so long.

The previous owner, the wonderful Gary Skory, has so much of the story of Ripley House in his head, heart and keepsakes. This is a sketch that someone he knew did back in 1992. It has been invaluable as we have calculated and altered certain elements of design to present to the Hisorical Board of Midland. Thank you Gary for everything you've shared, and I can guarantee I'll be contacting you to pick your brain during this journey!

So, I know this fella, and he is really good at renovating houses. You know, taking something that most people would walk away from or maybe take a lit match to, and turning it into a completely revived place. He's got a great eye for potential, a good imagination for unthought of possibilities and a crew full of guys (including himself) with a wide range of skills. Well, he knew this bright and clever hippie guy who was going to be selling his house. This house, which happened to be the 3rd oldest house in Midland, had been loved and cared for by the gentleman who lived there and did what he could to keep the house alive, improving things when he could. You could feel his heart in the house and in the stories he shared about her history, which began in 1868, but he was looking to a new future elsewhere. The house and the uniqueness of her story, along with the beauty that could still be seen underneath the marks of time, made an imprint on the skillful fella, and he knew he wanted to be the next owner. He approached a historian friend of his, discussing the possibilities he saw for the future of the house, and they decided to venture into the project together. That is where we begin our story of the Ripley House Project. Over time we will fill in alot of historic details, talk about how many people are involved with her continued glory, and show some down and dirty pictures of her life and resurrection. Follow along with us on an amazing journey that we haven't even come close to finishing yet! Welcome aboard!
