Based in Milford, Michigan and serving the surrounding communities, Deer & Gardens, Inc. is an established professional gardening firm that specializes in garden design, renovation, and maintenance with an emphasis on designing deer-resistant gardens. Applicant requirements:
• Must have some form of horticulture training such as master gardener certification, participation in a horticultural degree program, or significant personal gardening experience.
• Must enjoy working outside under all weather conditions, March through November.
• Must be capable of performing physical work such as lifting up to 40 pounds, digging, planting trees and shrubs etc.
• Are passionate about horticulture, have a positive attitude and are self-motivated.
• Have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

Starting vegetable and flower seeds indoors at this time of the year can be very satisfying and useful. But each year I have to refresh my mind about which seeds to start when. No more. You enter your city’s frost free date and it will calculate for you when to plant each seed type indoors and the date to plant them outside. Late September is feeling more like November around Milford. We are rushing to plant fall bulbs and bring what remains of produce in from our gardens. I

I recently attended a wonderful Horticulture symposium where the keynote speaker was Ken Druse. Ken is the author of some of my favorite hort books including “The Natural Garden,” “Planthropology,” and “The Passion for Gardening.” His passion for gardening and plants is evident in all of his elegantly written and lusciously illustrated books. Ken’s website, podcasts, and books are worth spending some time with!

Doug Hall, the Senior Editor of Organic Gardening Magazine, tested potato-growing methods seven different ways last year for an article in the magazine. We talk about his findings, and also what he discovered in the Andes when he helped teach farming methods while in the Peace Corps.

Pam will be presenting "Deer Damage Control Strategies 101" to the Lakes Area Garden Club on Tuesday, March 8. Non-members are welcome to attend. The meeting will held in basement of Wolverine Police Dept at 425 Glengary Road, Wolverine Lake. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM with a short business meeting, followed by the presentation.
