Officer Simmler is an internationally recognized submission grappler and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, a former professional MMA fighter, and the owner of a BJJ school for nearly 20 years. He is among the most qualified police officers in the country in this discipline. Officer Simmler has used his extensive knowledge to build a program applying BJJ techniques to law enforcement grappling. He has shared his expertise with the Worcester Police Department, helping to design a program that has trained nearly 400 Worcester Police officers in techniques that may save their lives and prevent harm to both officers and subjects. He has been incredibly generous with his ability and time.

Special recognition is also extended to WPD Officer Pete DeProspo, a fellow BJJ black belt, and Training Division Officers Jensen Martinez and Mike Wilson for their contributions to the program.

See these two men? They are Marcus Harvey and Tre Jones from Marion, Indiana. They should be all over the news but they’re not. A few days ago they saw a house fully engulfed in flames with people still inside so they kicked in the front door and risked their own lives to save the occupants inside. None of the occupants would still be alive if it wasn’t for them. Neither one gave a second thought about anybody’s color, they just did what was right. These are the heroes that the media won’t show you.
