Upper Canada College’s Lindsay Boathouse has been recognized by Architectural Record Record with an Honorable Mention in the Sports Category for The 2025 Architectural Record Awards! The project will be featured in a special section of the Architectural Record November print issue.

This new project on Toronto’s Outer Harbor waterfront supports a more public-facing mission for a storied K-12 rowing program. Sited on a man-made peninsula and designed to capture dramatic views of the downtown skyline across the channel, the 9,400-square-foot facility houses boat storage bays, locker rooms, and a rowing training room that converts to community space for a variety of events. Environmental measures include a low-carbon, cross laminated timber structure assembled onsite, expansive bird-safe glazing for daylighting, passive ventilation, and green roofs for heat absorption and stormwater management. The boathouse and its launch area and crew docks are also part of Ports Toronto’s master plan to improve public access to an adjacent nature preserve.

VJAA has been selected as a finalist for PORCH: An Architecture of Generosity, the U.S. Pavilion exhibition at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

Organized by the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas in collaboration with DesignConnects and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, PORCH represents the United States’ exploration of civic engagement, community building, and social and environmental resilience through architecture and design.

We’re celebrating 10 years of the Year End Show (Y.E.S.), the pinnacle of Miller Hull Design Week.

Over the past decade, the Y.E.S has become a cherished tradition, where a panel of national and international design professionals engages in thoughtful, open dialogue about a year’s worth of our work. This is not about selecting winners but exploring the pressing issues, themes, and trends shaping the field of architecture. This year, we’re honored to welcome architectural writer Fred A. Bernstein as our moderator, alongside panelists Alan Organschi, Principal and Partner at GOA, Regina Chen, Senior Principal at MASS Design Group, and Jennifer Yoos, FAIA, LEED AP, Partner and President at VJAA Inc.. Their insights will inspire us as we continue to grow as stewards of the built environment.

Lindsay Boathouse at Upper Canada College in Toronto, Canada received an Honor Award in two AIA Framework for Design Excellence categories: Design for Well-Being and Design for Discovery. 825 Arts community art center in Saint Paul, Minnesota’s Frogtown neighborhood received an Honor Award in four AIA Framework for Design Excellence categories: Design for Equitable Communities, Economy, Resources, and Integration. The Autism Discovery Center at Saint Cloud State University received a Commendation for Excellence in the Design for Well-Being category.
