The other day I got a call-back from a valued client regarding this butcher block countertop.
Sometime back this summer I was at his home to refinish the top after a new differently-sized sink was installed.

I had a choice of what polyurethane to use and wanted to go with something that would dry fast so my client could use the sink area between coats. The product I used was Benjamin Moore Stays clear satin polyurethane (water based).
After several months my client had called to inform me that this polyurethane never fully cured. In fact it was soo soft after months of drying, you could still press your fingernails into it.

I told him "I'll make it right"...
That same Thursday I stripped the old polyurethane away using my heat gun and 5-1 without causing any damage to the stained wood underneath.

3 coats of Helmsman Spar Varnish (oil based) later and I'm on my Merry way. This is a product I've trusted for years. The only reason I didn't use it the first time around was because I wanted to rush the dry time, in order to convenience the client. I won't be making this mistake again.

A few more before and after photos of an extensive whole-home restoration project from last winter. The house had not seen any interior updates in 20-30 years. We stopped wallpaper and repaired all the plaster walls As well as refinishing all the woodwork throughout the home.
I ❤️ the color palette my clients selected for this project.

Just finishing up this old house. Really loving this accent color "herbal wash" SW-7739.
Owners wanted to keep the old wallpaper, but it feels like this color pallet works well.
