Ive been pretty busy since I left NC, and have not had any time for new projects, work has kept me very busy with customer jobs, and nothing that was particularly transformative.

However, I realized that I never posted the final result of my last real project in NC. I posted the start of it. But never the end of it.

I started with a brand new Re*****on 870, and decided to build a new shotgun for my momma Kathy Detraz as a thank you for supporting me through college.

I won't bore everyone with all the minor changes and upgrades. I made new wood furniture for it, refinished it in a special diamond coating, cut the barrel to a legal 18.5 inches, mounted an antique cuts compensator with a spreader choke for wider shot spread and reduced recoil, and fit a police issue aluminum trigger unit with a reduced sear spring for light weight trigger. Plus had it fully engraved.

I do take pictures of some projects that come in once and a while, And I have considered posting some content on them, but I am not certain as to how well those would track, especially with them not being very visually transformative. I unfortunately dont get very many projects that drastically change the look of a firearm. I will see how things continue.

Finally got around to taking some glamor shots of my favorite rifle to ever come out of my machines.

This project has been a long time coming. Re bluing this old shotgun barrel isn't exactly the most fun thing I've done. Though it does rank up there in painful when you make mistakes.

Things have been hectic here for the last several weeks as I've been moving things around and setting up new projects. This one is probably one of my favorites so far. This new production 870 is a passion project for a VERY special customer. More detailed uploads of this project will be posted on the Instagram page over the next several weeks.

Edit: this is only the first step for this gun. A lot of internal tuning will be done to really smooth it out. But it's also going to get some engraving and a full refinishing job. The wood furniture is going to stay however.

PSA: It goes to show that you can't ever be careless or content. This firearm was in a lockable case in the back seat of my truck and last night, someone smashed out the rear passenger window and stole it.

I have already filed a police report and handled insurance. So I've done all I can realistically do.

Just remember, never leave guns in your vehicles because when the door is locked, the windows are only glass. Things have been very peaceful here ever since I moved in and so I became complacent and I paid the price.

I hope everyone stays safe and remembers that your gun can and will be stolen if not stored properly and hopefully won't end up being a murder weapon. I'd sooner hear from the police that it was destroyed than hear someone was hurt or killed because I was too comfortable leaving it in my vehicle in front of my own home.

Everyone please be safe I wish everyone well.

I'm very bummed that this wasn't a successful test. But I'm not to the bottom of my bag of tricks.
This build has occupied me for the last month and it's been a real brain tease. I'm on a tight deadline, so I've been spending a lot of time on this one. So I apologize for not sharing updates lately.
I've decided to start sharing more indepth looks at my work on Instagram, there's not much up right now, but if you'd like to see more of the technical side of what I do, and how much thought and work goes into each little process, feel free to follow us on DCG on Instagram.

A good friend asked me to cerakote his old police issue Beretta 96. The bluing was fading in places and there were scratches abound. After talking for a bit, we settled on a two tone finish of H series Sniper Grey and H series Graphite Black. This project came out fantastic and served as a fun weekend project. While cerakoting is not a permanent option for gunsmithing work right now. It will be implemented in the future.
