Yesterday’s Bloom Under Glass at Black Orchid Brewing was everything we hoped it would be and more. 🌿🍻

A room full of people slowed down, got their hands dirty, asked questions, shared stories, and created living ecosystems from the ground up. From layering LECA and soil to placing the final touches of moss and foliage, each terrarium became a reflection of its creator.

One of my favorite parts of hosting these workshops is watching complete strangers connect over plants. What starts as a terrarium workshop often becomes a space for conversation, creativity, laughter, and community.

As I looked around the room yesterday, I was reminded why Nursery 1621 exists. Plants have a way of bringing us back to ourselves. They teach patience, care, and growth. They remind us that beautiful things take time.

Thank you to everyone who spent their Saturday afternoon with us, to Black Orchid Brewing for hosting, and to every participant who trusted us to guide them through the process of building something beautiful.

We pre washed and soaked LECA for the Bloom Under Glass Terrarium Building Experience at Black Orchid Brewing.

LECA creates the drainage layer in our terrariums, helping manage excess moisture and supporting healthier root systems inside the glass. It may not be the most glamorous part of the build, but it’s one of the most important.

We’re getting everything ready so you can show up, build, and enjoy the experience. See you Saturday from 3PM–5PM! ✨

🌿 TIPS & TRICKS TUESDAY: SPANISH MOSS 🌿

Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) may look delicate, but with the right care it can grow into a lush, cascading curtain of silver green beauty.

Here are 5 essential care tips:

💧 Soak, Don’t Just Mist
Spanish Moss absorbs water through tiny scales called trichomes. Give it a thorough soak for 15–30 minutes once or twice a week rather than relying solely on misting.

🌬️ Prioritize Airflow
Good air circulation is key. Spanish Moss should dry within a few hours after watering to prevent rot and keep it healthy.

☀️ Provide Bright, Indirect Light
Place your moss where it receives plenty of bright light without prolonged harsh afternoon sun, which can cause damage.

🌱 Feed Monthly During the Growing Season
A diluted air plant or diluted orchid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer can encourage fuller growth. Remember, a little goes a long way.

💦 Use Quality Water
Rainwater, distilled water, or filtered water are ideal. Minerals and chemicals found in some tap water can build up over time and affect plant health.

Fun Fact: The silvery appearance comes from specialized trichomes that help the plant capture moisture and nutrients directly from the air.

Just like personal growth, thriving starts with absorbing what nourishes you and letting go of what doesn’t.
