I went and checked on all the animals to make sure they were okay. PSA- rabbits hate the heat - if they normally do not have floppy ears and you see they are floppy - it’s time for some TLC ASAP! - Otis is happy in his mud pit, with Kala- the dog joining him for a wrestle , and all the rabbits are hot but hydrated! No floppy ears here!
🚨 HOT WEATHER PSA FOR ANIMAL OWNERS 🚨
With these temperatures rising, please keep an extra eye on your outdoor animals — especially rabbits, pigs, and outside dogs. Heat can turn deadly FAST.
🐰 Rabbits:
• Rabbits overheat VERY easily
• Keep them in shade with frozen water bottles or ceramic tiles to lay on
• Make sure water stays cool and clean
• Never leave hutches in direct sun
🐷 Pigs:
• Pigs cannot sweat and can overheat quickly
• Provide mud/water areas for cooling
• Shade is NOT optional in this heat
• Watch for heavy breathing, weakness, or laying down excessively
🐶 Outside Dogs:
• Fresh water at all times
• Shade all day long
• Pavement can burn paws within seconds
• If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them
⚠️ Signs of heat stress in animals:
Heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, wobbling, refusing food/water, bright red gums, or collapse.
Please check on your animals AND your neighbors’ animals during this heat wave. A few extra minutes of care can save a life. ❤️
