Many are sad for JP's loss and we appreciate all the thoughts. But just to show you how good God is, Pat had just talked to the kids a couple of months ago to prepare them for her passing bc she was getting old. They had time to say their goodbyes and my kids were emotionally prepared. It would have been tragic had she ended up as the alligator's meal but instead it was a beautiful display of love shown between pet and owner.
Many ask if I freaked out. Not once did I worry for his safety. His strength and physique have finally matched up with his bravery. I believe this story needs to start off with, "KIDS, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME." Although he made it sound easy, JP had the skills, the knowledge of his environment and wildlife, along with lots of fitness training which includes but is not limited to him being an advanced competitive swimmer.
I hope the attention from this article will spread awareness of our alligator population increase. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR KIDS AND PETS TO BE NEAR BODIES OF WATER INCLUDING SUBDIVISION/CANAL DITCHES UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE TO FORCE THEM TO MIGRATE OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOODS.

Many parents give pets to their sons and daughters to teach responsibility. Not many parents can say their offspring fought an alligator to save a pet. Pat and Beth Dupuy can.
