I been back at it, painting my doubles, pepper sauce, fresh juice drink - all on top of a festive & colorful Caribbean tablecloth. I’ve been dreaming of doubles for some while now & it’s been phenomenal to try my hand at painting it. With lots of tamarind sauce too. 😋

Today’s the last day to see the disability awareness exhibition at Fishers Arts Council at City Hall! Things close at 4:30, I believe. I’ve got two pieces of my art in the exhibition and it was such a wonderful experience. So much great art to see!

Remarkable event & surreal to see my art on the news broadcast.

I’m excited about the new opportunity to showcase more of my artwork in the March, exhibition on Disability Awareness. It’s a collaboration between Fishers Arts Council and Ignite Studios. I have two pieces that I think very nicely serve as responses to the call for art. If you’re local to Fishers, please consider stopping by to see the art of many in the community! In the picture, I’m signing artwork over for March, as I do drop off.

For Disability Awareness month, I’m returning to Fishers Arts Center and the Ignite Studio (for the first time), to showcase some of my art work. It’s exciting and I get to bring more of my life & work, into my art. Next March will be an exciting time for two unique pieces to be brought into the community and as an artist with a disability, this cfa felt especially special to me. This will also be the first time I’m combining my academic work as a professor and disability researcher with arts based research methods, in a public venue. I intentionally keep my career and professional work out of my arts spaces, but this instance makes sense to pull the curtain back a little. I’ll be sharing more about the exhibition and how I approached this expression of self and my research agenda.

The exhibit reception last night was phenomenal. I had a great time and Fishers Arts Council did a wonderful job with their public facing event and the community enjoyed it. In speaking during the interview portion of the night, sitting alongside other community artists and the young student artists was remarkable. I was able to articulate my views as an artist and how my current pieces relate to “double consciousness” from W.E.B. DuBois. As a reminder, the exhibition is open until February 27th.
