With all of the fireplace use, we are seeing and responding to lots of chimney and structure fires. Please have your chimney and fireplace inspected by someone that is certified in chimney inspections and codes. Not a handy man, not a contractor, not an HVAC person. They are all good for their specific trade. Chimneys and fireplaces are very, very different. Lots of the fires are due to poor workmanship, bad installations, lack of annual maintenance. These pictures are from today. A fireplace that had been improperly installed and never had maintenance. The walls and surrounding area had caught fire but the homeowner didnt even realize it.
Lastly, make sure the company showing up has uniformed technicians and trucks with the name of the company you called on the phone. There are several company’s that can be found on Google that are not real and they sub out your inspection or cleaning to anyone that will take it. You will know because they drive white vans , no name and their techs have no identification on them.
