**ANIMAL MOVEMENT RESTRICTION UPDATE**
While there has not been a confirmed case of New World Screwworm in Oklahoma, ODAFF continues to work closely with our partners at USDA to monitor its spread.

Please see the updated animal movement restrictions below.

New World Screwworm is an invasive pest that primarily infests livestock and wildlife but will infest any warm-blooded mammal. New World Screwworm does not impact food and the food supply is safe.

It is important to frequently inspect all livestock, pets and captive wildlife for signs of NWS.

Report any suspicious wounds or suspected cases of NWS immediately to your local veterinarian, local County Extension Agent, or the ODAFF State Veterinarian at 405-522-6141.

I’ve had customers asking me about egg yolk colors. It’s amazing how they change with summer and fall. As the fall comes the acorns drop and the wild grapes grow here. That can turn an orange egg yolk to brown.
You never see that in store-bought eggs because they are confined, eating only grains,soy and corn. They never get to free range.

Big Daddy has officially retired!
He is off to his forever farm to live out his final years doing happy chicken stuff 🐓

Big Daddy has sired around 2,000 offspring over the last 2.5 years.

As of this year, we have officially surpassed his genetics. We have 6 males maturing to take over our two flocks.

What specific genetics did we outgrow?
His high tail, shorter back, low wings, and color.

Although he is in alert mode making his tail ultra high, these happen to be the same genetics most Cream Legbar breeders struggle correcting.

The key is culling! Cull! Cull! Cull!
Chickens inherit tons of genetic data. To breed out those defects, you must cull.

We cull twice a year. In June when our chick season comes to an end, and in February before it starts again.

In the next few weeks, I will have several laying hens available. My Opal Legbar is also being rehomed.

We only have two more hatches for the season!

⛈️ Rain! So much rain! 🌧️

It was a dry spring.
The kind of dry that I thought the grass was going to wither away.

But God sent us a blessing:
A full 10 days of rain! All over Oklahoma!
Even in the Panhandle that hasn’t had rain since November 2025!

The pasture exploded with plant life!

You’ll never guess the fertilizer I used.
Manure and blood.

That’s right, blood. Octopus’ blood.
I told you, **nothing** went to waste.

You’ll have to stay tuned for the recipe 😉
