I’m back to business! I am happier, grateful and more humble thank ever. In December everything came to a halt with my business due to a sudden illness of one of my children. I’m thankful GOD spared her life. In the stillness of those weeks I gained clarity, became more focused and reimagined what it would look like for me as a business owner & a person. I wanted my life to look like one of GODs helpers continuing to live in my spiritual gifts of teaching and helping. GoD led me to want to continue uplifting people with beautiful, joyful and functional homes… and to live in expectancy of abundance and growth of what I prayed for. The season is here and God has put me exactly where I am supposed to be.
I am especially thankful for my clients, I am thankful for my family, friends and my tribe. A special shout out to my design community.. to my dec den peeps (yall know who you are). Noel of , Antonio of antonjodeloatchdesigns, , and all of for checking on me and praying for me. Being part of these communities and sharing in everyone’s joy, challenges and learning environments really helped me through a season. I am eternally grateful. Finally special thanks to Mandira of of Mclean VA. I’ve been out in these streets and they have an amazing selection and assortment of dresses for all my events since December. No more buying expensive dresses that are donated after a few uses.

When I made this dress at 17 I didn’t know I was taking on my first biggest design challenge for my senior prom. The dress was made from a Christian Dior Haute Couture Collection. The wedding gown was made from the original pattern & had a ballon bell-shaped skirt with deep tucks in the waistline and a fitted bodice with long sleeves and a high neckline with an exaggerated bow with a cummerbund to finish the waist. The back was covered in covered fabric buttons that went down to the waist. It was beautiful, classic, and had a lovely A-line silhouette. At the time I was 91 lbs wet at 5'7" tall and I was so thin the goal was to add weight to myself & be able to dance and breathe without sweating the entire evening. The goal was to add more volume to my build and still honor the spirit of the pattern. Rather than having long tailored sleeves, I shortened the sleeves& added exaggerated tailored puff sleeves to allow for a voluminous sleeve, I added gathering above the waist, to show more depth to my body above the cummerbund, I removed the rosettes on the back of the dress and added a simple tie to the cummerbund sash, and I removed the dress train.

I purchased this deep maroon (almost purple) taffeta silk fabric from JoAnne Fabrics. This was the hardest pattern I ever sewed and I am telling you; I had to get my mom involved at times as I got frustrated at the fabric slipping and sliding on the sewing machine. It took weeks to alter the pattern and to complete this dress.

The process changes I made still correlate to interior design today through shared principles of structure, proportion, detail and personal expression. I don’t know if people knew that Christian Dior studied architecture and applied its lessons to fashion to focus on structure and framework. I can say that the process of altering this gown is the same as customizing an interior space to meet a homeowner’s specific needs and taste. We choose specific materials, finishes and layouts to ensure uniqueness for the client, we problem solve & adapt to translate their vision into reality.

A family room refreshed from traditional to transitional for our empty-nester clients. We layered soft textures to bring depth and warmth, keeping the foundation serene with cream and beige tones. A geometric rug, tactile pillows, sculptural bronze side tables, and statement lighting added sophistication to the room. Unique furniture pieces and curated accessories were selected to complement their extensive fine art and sculpture collection. For 2 days last week I was in DC for the 10ksbsummit surrounded by some of the most inspiring business owners around the Country including my Baltimore Cohort 22 alumni. The energy in a room of people like you who work long nights to make a big impact in the world was unmatched. Two days of learning, collaborating, & mtgs with our elected reps in both the house & the senate to remind them of issues important to small businesses.
