While these Dahlias are still going strong right now, its only a matter of time before they will need to be cut back, dug up, and stored for the winter.
The season for tender perennial lifting and bulb planting is approaching. Let us do the dirty work for you!

This time of year it is important to stay on top of removing dried up, dead herbaceous material....those perennials with foliage that has died back.
Leaving the foliage to over winter on the ground will invite plant diseases to run rampant.
Proper sanitation all year is key to having a successful garden!

Spring has officially arrived! While it's tempting to clean out your beds the absolute second its sunny and above 50 degrees, doing so can actually disturb beneficial insects that have been overwintering in the leaf litter. Certain insects winter in the hollow stems of dried plants left from the previous year.

If you absolutely must cut down stems, consider gently cutting and bundling together with twine. Tie to a fence post to let insects wake up when theybare ready!

After we have consistent days over 50, at least 7 in a row, it will be safe to get in there and remove leaves!!

Time to think about seeds!!
Veggies come in all kinds of different colors! Growing a rainbow garden is a great way to get kids involved in the garden and make eating veggies fun!!
Not to mention, that purple color is packed with antioxidants!!

Food and water sources, cover and a place raise young, and sustainable practices such as not using chemicals in your yard or composting are all you need!
Help support the NWF by certifying your yard.....and get a fancy sign so all your neighbors know the good you are doing to help our environment!

This garden is set along the inside of a rock wall along a road and it needed some simple maintenance. At first glance it doesn't look like there is too much to w**d out or trim, but the load of material that was removed proves the importance of taking a closer look at our gardens!
More air will be able to move around the base these plants and will cut down on the susceptibility of rot and diseases like Downy Mildew.
