Our heroic team: Stu, Walter, Jake, Heather, and Caleb. We have been extraordinarily busy this season with more garden renovations than we can count, while also keeping up with regular maintenance at nearly a hundred gardens. Looking forward to seeing it all grow in!

Springtime flower garden with orlaya, petunias, snapdragons, dianthus, lantana

We have been busy with countless garden renovations this winter and spring and we'd love to share some pictures but our vision is for the long term and plants move slowly! Somehow it's just not very exciting to look at a picture of a freshly-planted shrub or tree, but now that spring is here in earnest the flowers are really beginning to pop

One of our success stories at a home in Riverbend.

This was one of the first gardens we took on. The lawn had been cut too short for years, and the soil was compacted and dead. We loosened the soil, added compost and, brought it back to life with mycorrhizal inoculants. We managed to regrow the lawn grass without laying sod, and also planted Asiatic jasmine as a ground cover by the road.

After a few years, it has become a lush, beautiful, and low maintenance garden.

Just a little path repair

This path was originally laid on timber which had rotted out and left the pathway uneven and broken. We reused most of the existing path, but built a solid foundation out of paver base and sand with some bricks buried at the end to make a little step.

Landscape fabric is not only useless, it is a pollutant. We recommend never using this kind of w**d barrier, and we remove it every chance we get. As you can see in this photo, it does not prevent w**ds. Over time, it will break down into microplastics in your soil. The only way to actually keep w**ds out of gravel is regular and diligent w**ding and cleanup. Blowing off leaves and removing debris from a gravel area will prevent that organic matter from decomposing and becoming soil among the rocks and creating a place for the roots of w**ds to grow. As part of our regular garden maintenance for gravel areas we blow off debris and pull w**ds every couple weeks to keep the areas clear. When we install a gravel area, our favorite technique is to dig deep and put in a foundation of paver base limestone over sand with the decorative gravel on top; with this thick layer of rocks, if you maintain it well, it can easily be kept w**d free. But don't use landscape fabric.
