May Calendar Spotlight: Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful

Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful continues to play such an important role in preserving and protecting the urban canopy throughout Jefferson Parish. Through tree planting, beautification efforts, and community involvement, they help ensure future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty and benefits trees bring to our area.

We especially admire their commitment to education through the Carey Hammett Tree School, where homeowners, professionals, and tree advocates can continue learning about proper tree care and preservation. Our President & CEO, Lee Stansberry, has been actively involved with the Tree School for years, and it’s been incredible to see the impact this program continues to make within our community.

At Bayou Tree Service, preservation has always been at the heart of what we do, which is why we’re so grateful for organizations like Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful and everything they continue to do for our trees and community.

On Friday, after 31 years, Julio is retiring! We are so appreciative of his dedication to Bayou Tree. Julio has been someone you can truly count on & that is truly hard to find. His hard work and consistency meant a lot to our team, and we’re really grateful for everything he’s given to the company.

Thank you Julio for everything! We are truly going to miss you!

St. Charles Avenue functions as a true linear park, with miles of connected green space defined by its historic live oak canopy and the streetcar line running beneath it. That canopy is carefully managed, not accidental.

The St. Charles Avenue Association (SCAA) plays a key role in protecting and advocating for that landscape. Their focus is on preserving the character of the Avenue while balancing infrastructure, traffic, and development with the long term health of the trees that define it.

We partner with SCAA to support that mission through hands on tree care. Our work includes structural pruning to maintain clearance for streetcars and vehicles, proactive health care to strengthen root systems and soil conditions, and ongoing monitoring to catch issues early. Everything is done with preservation in mind, keeping these trees safe, stable, and thriving within a highly active urban corridor.

It is a collaborative effort to maintain one of the most recognizable and carefully managed tree canopies in the city.
