Also, in zone 9/10, now is your last chance to trim your palms for the end of the season if you haven't done so already. Remember, don't trim beyond the parallel in order to prevent trunk narrowing in the following years of growth as reducing their sun gathering capacity in the fall and winter months will result in a noticeable "girdle" look to the trunk a couple of years later. This is the time of year to water early and deep! If you're watching your wallet, like most right now, pick days of the week evenly spaced apart and water less often but regularly to help save on your water bill (like Tues, Thurs, Sat or Mon, Wed, Fri). Monitor how long it takes to reach saturation (run off) on the second day and then set your duration to that time (15, 17, 20 mins, whatever it might be). Set your zone timing to the method above and then set your frequency to the calendar days for even, consistent distribution. And, if you don't have a rain delay on your system, consider getting one installed and set to 1/4 -1/2" rain before it cuts off. You'd be amazed at how quickly it'll pay for itself in our climate. (BTW, it needs to be somewhere that it can actually catch rain and not in a spot it will prematurely cut off like the bottom end of a roof eve!). Good luck this season!
