These are my favorite veggies to plant up an arch trellisâwhat are yours???
And itâs time to plant them all nowâby seed directly sowing into the soil. All of these germinate fast and do BEST when direct sown vs transplanted.
When direct sowing, sow more seeds than you need plants. Itâs insurance in case they donât all come up.
Cucumber
đżSpace them 12 inches apart (I do 4 along my 4â trellis)
đżPlant 2-3 seeds per spot, then when the seedlings are a few inches tall, thin down to one plant
đżAdd all purpose granular fertilizer to planting spot
Pole beans (vining string beans)
đżSpace them 6â apart (I plant them every 3â and then thin down when they are a few inches tall)
đżIf your soil is rich, skip the fertilizer. Beans and peas have abundant nitrogen, and extra nitrogen in fertilizer can cause lots of leafy growth but delayed beans
Vining Centercut squash (or melon, butternut, etc)
đżSpace them about 16â along an arch (I do three along my 4â arch)
đżPlant 2-3 seeds per spot, then when the seedlings are a few inches tall, thin down to one plant
đżAdd all purpose granular fertilizer to planting spot
