How to Fill a DEEP Raised Bed CHEAP and EASY! 🌱💰
Want to save money while creating a nutrient-rich raised bed? Follow these simple steps!
1️⃣ Start with the Base: Bulk Materials
Fill the bottom ⅓ to ½ with cheap materials like logs, branches, dead leaves, straw, or cardboard.
2️⃣ Add Organic Matter
Layer kitchen scraps, unfinished compost, or manure to boost long-term soil fertility.
3️⃣ Middle Layer for Drainage & Nutrients
Use a mix of garden soil, compost, and aged mulch or wood chips.
4️⃣ Top Layer: High-Quality Soil
Fill the top 6–12 inches with nutrient-rich compost, potting soil, or a garden soil-compost mix.
5️⃣ Water & Settle
Water each layer as you build to help it settle and start breaking down.
