Just Irises Episode 65: “How To Hybridize An Iris.” In this video, Dylan demonstrates the best technique for success in breeding a bearded iris. The anther is located beneath the style arms. Also, you cannot cross in the rain. The pollen must be dry and the cross must be done at least 3 hours before any rain for the pollen to take. In the event rain is on the forecast, and you need to do a cross (final bud in bloom, low bud count on maiden (first year) stalk, you can cover the flower with a zip lock bag and then uncover after rain passes to ensure optimum success.
