While many homeowners look into fireplace inserts to increase heat output and improve efficiency, improper installation or venting can create serious fire hazards. In many cases, older or incorrectly installed inserts do not vent completely to the exterior, allowing excessive creosote buildup to collect around and on top of the insert.
