Winter solstice arrives today, and this short day is an invitation to pause before daylight begins to gradually return. As landscape architects we design for all seasons, understanding that dormant landscapes are busy gathering strength for spring’s soon-to-come renewal. Here’s to the quiet beauty of winter and the promise of longer days ahead.

As 2025 draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the relationships that have shaped our practice. The visionary clients who trusted us with their communities’ futures, the talented colleagues who brought concepts to life, and the dedicated partners who championed meaningful change alongside us.

Throughout our 35 years, our intention has remained constant: designing places of harmony and distinction where nature and community flourish together. This milestone year has deepened our appreciation for the collaborative spirit that defines our work.

We will carry forward this momentum in 2026 with gratitude for the past and excitement for the landscapes Simone Collins can help steward.

: The lands of Trexler Nature Preserve were bequeathed to the citizens of Lehigh County by General Harry C. Trexler, as a cherished natural enclave where citizens can enjoy, learn, and help to steward the natural environment.

Simone Collins Landscape Architecture was selected by Lehigh County to analyze the existing site uses, past conservation practices, micro-habitats, and circulation systems toward making recommendations for enhanced sustainability of the Preserve.

SC led a multi-disciplinary team to produce a resource management-based master plan with a 10-year partnership funding strategy. The plan received a Merit Award from ASLA PA/DE.

Simone Collins served as project planner and bridge architect on the team to conceive and design the Forty Foot Pedestrian Bridge over SR 63 in the former village of Kulpsville, Towamencin Township, PA. The structure provides public safety, accessibility, and is the central landmark for the new Towamencin Town Center redevelopment. SC designed the art deco motif integral with the modern concrete structure and created a vegetated landscape environment on the deck. The iconic bridge won three national and state awards.

Thanksgiving reminds us to appreciate the land’s abundance and the natural systems that sustain us. We are grateful for the opportunity to support and enhance these ecosystems and design spaces where we can engage with one another while we connect to these sacred landscapes. Happy Thanksgiving!

On November 13th, Toby Levin and Pete Simone of Simone Collins Landscape Architecture attended “The Business of Housing” seminar that was co-hosted by both Montgomery and Chester Counties. Common themes included housing affordability and availability, and speakers presented case studies of incrementally overcoming these obstacles. SC client Nick Valla, assistant manager of Middletown Township was a featured speaker. Other SC clients who attended include Doug Borgerson, Manager of West Conshohocken Borough and Eric Traub, Manager of Whitpain Township. Keynote speaker Chuck Marohn of Strong Towns gave hopeful presentation of how communities can work their way out of the “housing trap.” Housing and affordability issues are key elements of SC’s Comprehensive Planning assignments for area municipalities.

Moore Park, originally planned as a traditional office / industrial park, is being re-imagined as a vibrant, mixed-use area located in the heart of the King of Prussia District in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, PA.

The Moore Road Multiuse Trail and Linear Park builds on the KOP District success in completing the adjacent First Avenue Multiuse Trail and Linear Park.

Simone Collins worked with the KOP District to:
> Evaluate the feasibility of a 10’-wide, multi-use trail along Moore Road, from First Avenue to Valley Forge.
> Investigate pedestrian bridge options over Trout Creek for the new trail.
> Communicate with participating property owners regarding options for developing a future trail.
> Estimate probable costs of trail construction.
> Evaluate potential trail linkages between the Moore Road Multi-use Trail and nearby Schuylkill River Trail West.

SC also authored three successful grants on behalf of the Township and District to fund final design and engineering of the project.

: In 2022, the Conodoguinet Creek Greenway Trail Plan was completed by Simone Collins Landscape Architecture to create a continuous trail network along the beautiful Conodoguinet Creek toward enhancing the quality of life for local residents while providing multimodal transportation opportunities for both commuting and recreation.

The 17.9-mile network features on-road segments and new off-road, multi-use trail segments to connect three communities: Hampden Township; Camp Hill Borough; and East Pennsboro Township.

Community participation was intensive and essential to achieve a final plan that serves many single-family residences along the Creek. Simone Collins was retained by Cumberland Conservation Collaborative based on extensive experience planning trail routes with communities.

The project was funded by Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, County, PA and the local communities.
