For my painting exhibit at Suavé Gelato this month, 10% of all sales revenue will be donated to Olon's Senior Lunch Program. This is a local effort to provide a healthy, nutritious meal once a week to seniors who may be facing food insecurity.
Aside from the meal, the intent is to also provide social support and fellowship to individuals who may be otherwise isolated — widows, widowers, those who are struggling or disabled, etc.
This program was started almost six years ago and is still run by Mike Becker. In that time, they have served more than 25,000 meals! He has attracted a steady and committed staff of helpers who cook, serve, and clean up each time.
It's an inspiring program, and I'm looking forward to being a long-time supporter of it.
