Celeste fig - had our first crop this year from only a cutting last year.
Thanks

Still struggling with rust, not affecting fruit quality but causing the leaves to fall early. Any suggestions for dealing with rusty figs?

Big harvest of Ube aka purple yam!

Got a plant from a fellow grower last spring, let it vine over some bushes in the back, and harvested as the leaves started turning yellow. Over 10lb of tubers from one plant!

This tropical yam is popular in the Philippines. We made some fries and some jam (halaya) with ours!

Ginger! Regular culinary variety, grown from a small piece of one from the grocery store. Going dormant for the winter so we dug some up.

Now to propagate some and enjoy the rest!

Learned that in order to propagate from store bought, it needs to be organic, otherwise it's likely irradiated to stop from growing. Also gingers are shade-loving, so plant them on the North side of your house.

Harvested our first yucca and what a bounty! The plant itself had grown over 8ft tall. Now for cleaning and freezing. Will be saving some cuttings for spring replanting.

Thanks for the starter cuttings.

Tropical asparagus. Katuk, aka, Sweetleaf, edible nutty tasting leaves can be eaten raw or cooked, with young shoots being comparable to asparagus! Also loaded with protein.

4-6ft tall shade-loving shrub originating from the rainforest understory of parts of Asia. Ours has just taken off in almost full shade of our oak.

Jaboticaba - aka Brazilian grape tree, flowers and fruits right on the trunk. Slow growing tree with many varieties often taking several years before fruiting. Our container grown red variety just began fruiting.

Thanks for getting me hooked on these.

The flowers remind anyone of sea anemones?

The pink flowers stand out nicely against the dark red/burgundy leaves.

Glad we planted this after our tomatoes finished up in the summer. Roselle, harvesting bucket loads from our 3 plants! The mature flowers are split up into seed pods and calyces.

Fresh calyces can be used for teas and raspberry-like jams, or dried for later use. The seed pods are discarded or can be boiled to extract the natural pectin for jam.

Passion fruit filling in our trellis nicely and beginning to flower.

The name "passion" comes from the Latin "passiflora" given by missionaries in South America who thought the five stamens of the flower could help illustrate the five wounds of Jesus in the the Passion of Christ.

Guarana - a woody vine known for its seeds which have twice the caffeine of coffee!

We picked up on a sidewalk sale at a nearby nursery and planted nearby our trellis. Now excited to see some fruit set and starting to ripen!

Not commonly grown in these parts as it can't stand the cold and needs fairly acidic soil.
