Colorado got a head start when the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) arrived in Boulder in 2013. City and state foresters reached out to their counterparts in cities east of the Mississippi and got tips on handling this destructive ash-killing beetle along the Front Range. Cities immediately culled all marginal Ash trees from their parks and treated all their high-value mature Ash. Their efforts probably slowed the spread of this jewel beetle, but now the insect has spread from Arvada to Littleton last year. The EAB is here to stay.
