Our team attended the groundbreaking for the new Harford County Emergency Services Special Operations Facility in Hickory on May 19th, celebrating the official start of construction alongside county leadership and first responders.

As the architects behind Special Ops Station 15, we designed this 16,200-square-foot facility to centralize critical response equipment, advanced training bays, decontamination zones, and leadership offices under one roof.

We thank Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly, the Department of Emergency Services, and Emergency Management Director Rick Ayers for the opportunity to work on this project, and we thank everyone involved in making this milestone possible. We look forward to watching it take shape over the next year! 🏗️

🚨 Project Spotlight: Crownsville Fire Station 6 🚒

We're excited to share these beautiful photos of the newly completed Crownsville Fire Station 6 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Take a look at how it all came together!

Situated at the corner of Sunrise Beach Road and Generals Highway in Crownsville, MD, this state-of-the-art 22,316-square-foot facility was built to serve the community and support firefighters for decades to come.

The station features four drive-through apparatus bays, a fitness room, a commercial kitchen, and a dedicated community engagement room. Designed with firefighter health as a top priority, it includes NFPA-compliant cancer-reduction features, built-in gear washers, decontamination areas, and an exhaust-removal system. This addresses the long-term health risks that are increasingly at the forefront of fire service design.

The station is home to Engine 6, Tanker 6, Medic Unit 6, Special Unit 6, a Safety Officer, Shift Commander, and Fire Investigators, along with space for the county's Medical Ambulance Bus for mass-casualty incidents. Built with low-energy fixtures and sustainable materials, the facility also targets LEED Silver Certification.

This week is National Safe Place Week, a time to recognize the essential network of businesses and public locations that provide immediate help and safety to youth in crisis. As we observe NSP Week, we want to highlight the importance of accessible, secure public buildings. Many fire stations, police stations, libraries, and municipal facilities we design are designated as "Safe Places," offering support to those in need.

Did you know that:
💠 The yellow, diamond-shaped Safe Place sign is a universal symbol of youth safety, visible on fire stations, libraries, and transit vehicles across 40 states.

💠TXT 4 HELP: In addition to physical sites, youth can text "SAFE" and their current location to 4HELP (44357) to find the nearest Safe Place immediately.

We often meet with volunteer departments that have low confidence in their ability to secure funding for projects like this. This effort shows what is possible when a strong vision is paired with committed department leadership and the support of local, state, and federal elected officials.

MW Studios has a proven track record of helping public safety agencies navigate this process and bring long-needed facilities to fruition.

We look forward to breaking ground with our friends and clients at Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue on this well-deserved project and extend our sincere thanks to the department leaders and the many elected representatives whose commitment and stewardship helped make it possible.

🚒 Big news for Middle River and eastern Baltimore County.

I’m grateful to see $9 million in federal funding approved to support the construction of a new station for the Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue

This was made possible by the tremendous efforts of Rep. Andy Harris, M.D., who successfully secured the funding through the federal appropriations process. Congressman Harris has consistently been a strong partner for our community and our first responders.

I’m also proud to work alongside my teammates, Delegate Kathy Szeliga and Baltimore County Councilman David Marks who have long been champions for our volunteer fire companies and the safety of the families we represent.

As a Middle River resident, this project means a lot to me personally. The men and women of the Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company have served our community for generations, responding to fires, medical emergencies, accidents, and disasters at any hour of the day or night.

This investment will help ensure they have the modern facilities and resources needed to respond quickly, safely, and effectively for decades to come.

Supporting our volunteer fire companies isn’t just good policy; it’s about protecting the people and neighborhoods we call home.

🚒 Thank you to our brave volunteers and to everyone who helped make this possible.

Last Friday, our team attended the Maryland School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation (MAPP) Career Fair at the University of Maryland!

This visit was particularly meaningful as our architectural designers, representing the firm, Danielle Olander and Joshua Miller, were proud UMD alumni themselves. It was an inspiring day spent engaging with the next generation of architects and planners who are ready to shape the future of our built environment.

As we look toward the upcoming season, we are also beginning to identify talented students for our summer internship program. It was great to meet so many talented students in person, and we thank everyone who stopped by to share their passion with us.
